Volleyball is a sport that demands both stamina and precise footwork, and Joaquin Hernandez, captain of the boys’ volleyball team for the 2025 spring season, has been drawn to it since the start of his high school career. Alongside his fellow captain, Sebastian Anguino, Hernandez shares a common inspiration for pursuing volleyball, which originates from the anime Haikyuu, a anime centered on the sport of volleyball.
Anguino, who plays a key leadership role on the team, emphasizes his commitment to maintaining a positive and spirited atmosphere during competitions. Meanwhile, Hernandez sees his primary responsibility as ensuring that the team remains focused. “I think I’m the more serious one,” he said. He also expressed his gratitude toward his teammates, acknowledging their role in helping him improve as a player.

When asked about areas for improvement, both captains agreed that the team would benefit from enhanced footwork and more effective communication. They stressed the importance of working cohesively as a unit rather than relying on individual efforts.
The most memorable moment for both captains came during their victory over San Lorenzo. “At the end of the day, you’re still playing volleyball, so it’s important to have fun,” Anguino said. He also confidently added, “I’m the best volleyball player of all time; they have nothing on me,” offering a glimpse of his playful nature.
