Have you ever gone on social media and seen people pour ice buckets (mostly just regular water) on people’s heads while their whole body gets soaked? Resurfacing the internet, the The 2025 Ice Bucket Challenge, dubbed the #SpeakYourMIND Ice Bucket Challenge, is focused on raising awareness and funding for mental health, specifically for young people.

The trend was started by an Instagram reel posted by the USC MIND Club on March 31, 2025, when USC’s Mental Illness Needs Discussion (MIND) club posted an Instagram reel, challenging their friends to participate and donate.

The “USC water trend” refers to the recent revival of the Ice Bucket Challenge, this time spearheaded by the USC MIND (Mental Illness Needs Discussion) club. Back then, the ice bucket challenge had gone viral as celebrities even participated. However, as of today with social media taking the usage of most teen’s lifestyles, they have the option to nominate their friends or people outside of school.
It was brought back in March 2025 by students at the University of South Carolina’s Mental Health Needs Discussion (MIND) and continues to be active as of today. Participants have 24 hours to complete the challenge and, if they choose the ice bucket, they have to upload a video as proof.
“Participants can either dump a bucket of ice water over their head and donate $10 to the ALS Association or skip the water and donate $100. They have 24 hours to complete the challenge and, if they choose the ice bucket, they have to upload a video as proof,” the ALS Association says on their website.
